This week we will spend time getting to know one another, going over course expectations, introducing the main social studies concepts that we will be going over this year, and start digging into the our first official unit. Here is a breakdown of what will be going on for each day this week:
Week 1 Overview, An Introduction to Social Studies
Due Wednesday, August 31st: Complete the Social Studies Careers Guided Notes. Click on the links below for the guided notes sheet and for the Prezi where you will find the definitions you will need to complete the assignment.
We will have a quiz on the various social studies careers on Thursday, September 1st.
Monday, August 29th
We will spend a large part of the class going over course expectations and getting to know one another.
Tuesday, August 30th
The Detective Game We will collaborate in a learning group to solve a crime!

Social Studies Careers Lesson
We will go over the lecture that covers the various careers one can pursue in the world of social studies.
Social Studies Careers Activity
We will work together on a group activity that will broaden their understanding of the various social studies careers that they have learned about this week.

Thursday, September 1st
Social Studies Careers Quiz
Students will take a quiz on the nine social studies careers that we learned about over the course of the last few days.
Why Study History? Activity
We will take a close look at the various reasons why we should all study history by going over this Why Study History? Prezi in class.
Friday, September 2nd
CNN Student News
We will start the day by taking a look at CNN Student News. This 10 minute show provides students with coverage of today's main news events. Students will write a quick reflection about one news story in their notebooks.
World Map Review We will spend the class reviewing and sharpening our World Geography skills. We will make sure that all of us know the 7 continents and the major oceans of the world.
