Week 14, November 27th to December 1st

Political Revolutions
This week marks the beginning of our Political Revolutions Unit.  Over the course of the next three and a half weeks, we will look at how the ideas of the Enlightenment were put into practice as people in the British American Colonies, France, and other places revolted against government institutions that did not provide for their natural rights.

Monday, November 27th
Glorious Revolution Comic Strip We will take part in a lecture/activity that explains the history of England’s Glorious Revolution.

If time, we will work on England’s Constitutional Monarchy in class.  Otherwise, it is homework. due Friday, December 1st

Tuesday, November 28th

The American Revolution Reading  Students will read over a document that provides an overview of the American Revolution.  We will examine the document together in class.  Students will work on answering the document questions.  Work that is not completed in class will be homework.  Completed documents are due Friday, December 1st.

Wednesday, November 29th
Declaration of Independence Translation We will be introduced to the Declaration of Independence today.  The main part of the introduction will be to work in groups to translate key sections of the document

Thursday, November 30th
Lesson One: Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness
We will begin to dig deeper into the Declaration of Independence.  Students examine the idea of “holding on to” something. They generate ideas of what “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” mean to them personally. They begin to memorize one of the most famous sentences in the world.

Friday, December 1st
Lesson Two: Vocabulary in this famous sentence
We will continue to  to dig deeper into the Declaration of Independence. Students work in six cooperative groups to use dictionaries to study the words in the sentence. Then they share with the other groups.
